Branding Photographers - Don't Forget About Creating Your Own Brand.

So, personal branding has become super important, and as a branding photographer, you've got the skills to capture your clients' essence through amazing imagery. But sometimes we can get so busy helping other people build their brand we can forget about our own!

Let's explore actionable strategies and insights that will help you elevate your own business and attract more of your ideal clients. Get ready to step up your game and stand out in the world of personal branding photography.

Organise your own Branding Shoot

Getting in front of the lens is a great way place to start. When we put ourselves in the shoes of our clients, we can them become truly empathetic and have a better understanding of the pain points that come up for our clients. When we see what issues can come up, we can then implement strategies to help our clients overcome this.

A great example of this is my What to Wear guide. For my own branding shoots I really struggle with my wardrobe (like really struggle), so knowing that clients might feel this way I created the What to Wear Guide to help them through this process.

Define Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)


First things first, what makes you special? Take some time to define your unique selling proposition (USP). This is a big word but it basically means figure out what sets your personal branding photography services apart from the rest. Maybe you specialize in a specific niche, have a unique approach, offer extra services (eg marketing packages) or possess killer post-processing skills.

Make sure to clearly communicate your USP on your website, social media, and marketing materials, so potential clients understand the value you bring to the table.


Create a Professional Website and Portfolio


Your website is like your online storefront, so it needs to look polished and professional. Showcase your brand identity, display a killer portfolio of your best images, and provide all the essential information about your services including how to work with, and more importantly, the steps needed to book you!

Use relevant hashtags, collaborate with influencers, and join industry-related discussions to expand your reach.

Don't forget to actively engage with your followers and promptly respond to inquiries. Building a strong online presence is a great way to be top of mind with your ideal audience.

Network and Collaborate


Networking is where the magic happens! Attend local business events, join industry groups and associations, and participate in photography workshops or conferences.

I have even created my own Admire and Inspire Events when I get my clients together to meet and network with each other.

Connecting with professionals in complementary fields, such as stylists, web designers, makeup artists, or branding consultants is another great strategy. By collaborating and offering comprehensive packages, you can tap into a whole new potential target market.

Remember, the more connections you make, the more exposure you'll get for your personal branding photography services.

Implement Referral Programs and Client Testimonials 


Happy clients are your secret weapon. Most of my jobs come from repeat clients and word-of-mouth referrals.  

Highlight glowing client testimonials on your website and social media, and I also send my clients a like with an option to write a review on my Google My Business page. Authentic and compelling testimonials can significantly influence potential clients' decisions. People trust the experiences of others, so make sure to showcase those positive experiences and let your clients do the talking!

Offer Valuable Content 


Position yourself as a personal branding photography expert by sharing valuable content. Create blog posts, video tutorials, or informative guides that answer common questions, provide practical tips, and showcase your knowledge.

By offering valuable content, you become a trusted resource and build credibility with your target audience. This strategy not only attracts potential clients but also fosters long-term relationships and encourages repeat business. Show that you know your stuff!
