Yes, I do believe that every business is different, but I also believe that we can use the following shot list as a framework for most shoots, and you then just change the location and posing ideas to suit your clients brand.
Here is the shot list of must have images for your clients:
1. The Head shot
Everyone needs a decent looking headshot. This is crucial for your social email signatures, all social profiles and your own website. Depending on your brand voice you can decide if you want a more formal or fun vibe for this shot.
2. Lifestyle images
These are generally a little more relaxed than a headshot. Basically this just means candid shots of you smiling, looking fabulous, laughing, walking down the street, at the park , checking your phone, etc.
2. Behind the scenes
Your audience want to see WHERE the action happens. Your desk, shop or studio, the couch! Anything goes! These shops are very helpful for people to get to know the person behind the business and see how how everything works. these shots are great for product based business that can show the process behind the products.
3. Negative Space
A plain coloured or white wall is ideal for adding text or overlays for promoting your services. These can also be useful on banners for your website, LinkedIn or Facebook.
4. Casual meeting Shoot
Grab a client or friend to pose as your client. Ideally they should be someone who matches your target audience. You can create and capture conversations, meetings on zoom, interaction at a cafe or shared workspace. It’s a great way to show people how they can work with you how you do business.
5. A day in the life
This documents your life and the components of it, such as your daily routines, animals, kids, partner etc. People love to connect with you on relatable topics so share things that your target audience can relate to.
6. Things you love
Reading, cooking, coffee, surfing, knitting?? Do you have any hobby's or quirky things you enjoy doing that your audience might find interesting. This a really good way to create unique images and show your personality a little more deeply.
7. Celebratory Images
Glass of Champers? Cheers? Party Poppers? These shots can add a bit of fun to your brand, and can be used when you reach some milestones in your business.
8. Demonstration
If you are a product based business, you can demonstrate and educate your ideal clients how to use it and the benefits of using it.
9. Tools of the trade
What items do you use to do your job? Camera, brushes, laptops, art supplies? What other props could you include that would add elements of storytelling to your images?
Even though I have given you some suggested images, don't be afraid to think outside the box!
As mentioned before, every business is different so there will be a variation of these ideas, but when you have nailed the 'must have' images, I also encourage you to try the more creative ideas as well.
If you want to be able to share these ideas with your clients in a cohesive and on brand way, then check out my Branding Shoot Ideas template.
I send this to my own clients in preparation for their shoot and they find it so helpful to write their shot list and get inspiration for what images they want to create for their business.
